OVERDOSE DEATHS SPIKE IN MARYLAND AMID PANDEMIC

Health experts in Maryland are seeing a spike in people seeking help for addiction.  They’re calling it a “pandemic within a pandemic.”  Vice President of Clinical Services at Ashley Addiction Treatment Center James Ryan says isolation and stress are side effects of COVID-19.  He says as a result, demand for services has grown.  The state Department of Health recorded a record amount of overdose deaths in 2020 at 2700.  The total for this year has not yet been released.
