During a press conference yesterday morning, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan declared a 30-day state of emergency due to COVID-19. The state health secretary now has the power to regulate hospital personnel, bed spaces and supplies. Patients will be moved between Maryland hospitals, and there will also be interstate reciprocity established. Noting that Maryland hospitals could house more than 5,000 COVID-19 patients, Governor Hogan predicts the next four to six weeks will be the most challenging time of the pandemic.
