Allegany County’s COVID-19 positivity rate has reached its highest point since April of last year. As of Tuesday, the rate was 19.57 per cent, and the average rate for the state was 28.56 per cent. There have been 135 new COVID cases since December 29th, along with two additional deaths. The county’s case rate has also risen dramatically, jumping from 40.55 cases per 100,000 people to 135.71 cases per 100,000. Only 49.1 per cent of Allegany County residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as compared to 70.7 per cent of all Maryland residents.
