A 42-year-old inmate at the North Branch Correctional Institution was taken to the hospital early yesterday, after he suffered a laceration to the throat during an altercation with another inmate. The incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. in a housing unit, with the injury inflicted by a homemade weapon. No correctional officers were injured and an investigation is underway by the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
