CITY RECEIVES S.H.A. FUNDING FOR MALL PROJECT

The city of Cumberland will receive approximately $6.3 million in funding from the Maryland State Highway Administration’s Transportation Alternative Program for renovations on the downtown Cumberland Mall. The money will cover the reinstallation of Baltimore Street through the pedestrian mall. The funding, which was accepted on an unanimous vote by the Cumberland Mayor and Council, is a large portion of the project’s estimated $10 million cost. The project is expected to get underway later this year, or early next year.
