The Maryland House of Delegates has rejected a bill that would have extended the gas tax holiday for another 60 days. Washington County Delegate Brenda Thiam proposed the amendment, which would have extended the holiday into the Memorial Day weekend. Unlike the 30-day suspension that passed last month, the new state budget has been passed, and the additional $150 million needed to extend the gas tax holiday would be taken from the transportation trust fund. The suspension saved motorists 36.1 cents per gallon on regular gasoline and 36.85 cents per gallon for diesel fuel. As it stands, the gas tax holiday will expire on April 16th.
