LIBRARY SYSTEM FACING $95,000 SHORTFALL

The Allegany County Library System will experience a $95,000 shortfall in the coming fiscal year, and county officials are looking for ways to fill that void, to help maintain current hours at the system’s six branches. Several factors entered the budget shortfall, including a reduction in state funding, coupled with increases in the minimum wage and a loss of employees. As a side note, the LaVale library is undergoing a $4.3 million renovation and expansion, and the branch has been closed since work began.
