Allegany County is moving closer to reducing the income tax rate, or “piggyback tax.” Commission President Jake Shade believes the rate should be reduced from 3.05 per cent to an even 3 percent. The board is considering the reduction because of the county’s 4.2 million budget surplus. The commissioners can’t agree, however on the exact amount of a cut. While Commissioner Shade believes in one figure, Commissioners Caporale and Brodie believe it should be less than .05 percent. A final decision has not been made.
