MARYLAND DOCTOR INDICTED ON FEDERAL HEALTHCARE FRAUD CHARGES

A federal grand jury has indicted a Maryland doctor in a COVID-19 healthcare fraud scheme. Forty-seven-year-old Dr. Ron Elfenbein is accused of submitting bogus claims to Medicare and other insurers for COVID tests at medical sites he owned and operated in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties. In addition, he allegedly filed more than 1-point-5-million-dollars in fraudulent claims for office visits. If convicted, Elfenbein faces up to ten years for each of the three counts of healthcare fraud.
