MAYOR AND COUNCIL CONSIDER SPORTS BETTING IN CUMBERLAND

During a hearing on Tuesday, the Mayor and City Council discussed regulations, regarding the likelihood of a sports betting operation in the city, specifically in the downtown area. Legislation was passed last year, legalizing sports wagering and fantasy competition, subject to state licensing requirements. Statewide, 17 retail gambling licenses have been awarded, including five of Maryland’s six casinos; Rocky Gap Casino is not seeking a license to offer sports betting. Maryland will have 30 retail licenses available soon.
