FROSTBURG WOMAN CHARGED WITH MALICIOUS BURNING

Sixty-three-year-old Darlene Szlama has been charged with malicious burning, after she allegedly ignited a pile of wood fencing on Monday. If convicted she could spend 18 months in jail or a $500 fine. The fire at 189 East Main Street involved fencing that belonged to her landlord. She told investigators that she burned the wood because she saw centipedes in it, and she was afraid they would eat her dog. She claimed she had asked her landlord several times to remove the wood.
