FORMER COUNCIL MEMBER SEEKING WRITE-IN VOTES

Former Keyser City Council member William Zacot is looking to be re-elected to that office by way of write-in votes. Zacot resigned during his first term, after he was indicted by a Mineral County Grand Jury on a charge of embezzlement from the Keyser Youth Baseball League. He resigned his position then, and eventually entered into a plea agreement of no contest. It was not an admission of guilt, but is treated as a conviction by the court. There is a question of whether he can legally run as a write-in candidate, or whether he needs to have his record expunged first. Keyser is awaiting an opinion on that matter.
