STATE LEGISLATIVE LEADERS SAY NO TO SPECIAL SESSION

State lawmakers will not be going back to work in Annapolis for a special session to head off an automatic increase in Maryland’s gas tax.  State Democratic legislative leaders say that Maryland needs the 200-million dollars provided by the gas tax hike to ensure the safety of the state’s roads and bridges.  In a statement, lawmakers say the suggested elimination of the six-cent inflation adjustment would not result in Marylanders seeing a price reduction at the pump.   They say “big oil companies exploiting global uncertainty” are the real reason behind the recent surge in gas prices.
