CAUSE OF FRIDAY FIRE INVESTIGATED

The cause of a Williams Street fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. Firefighters from three counties were on the scene at 360 Williams Street; that fire quickly spread to 362 Williams Street. The fire started around 2:50 a.m., and all occupants and a dog escaped uninjured. Williams Street was closed from Maryland to Louisiana Avenue, and reopened around 7:15 a.m. In addition to Cumberland firefighters, volunteers from around the county, as well as units from Ridgeley and Wiley Ford responded. Other volunteers covered the city’s central fire station, and the Eastern Garrett rehabilitation truck was also on the scene, providing firefighters with a place to rest, and to get food and drinks during longer calls.
