The Governor of Maryland’s office is responding to a request to provide protection outside the homes of Supreme Court Justices. Governor Larry Hogan’s director of communications, Michael Ricci responded to Supreme Court Marshal Gail Curley’s request saying Attorney General Merrick Garland’s office has refused Governor Hogan’s request to enforce federal statues that prohibit picketing at the homes of Justices. The Ricci tweet also says, “in light of the continued refusal by multiple federal entities to act, the governor has directed Maryland State Police to further review enforcement options that respect the First Amendment and the Constitution.”
