In what can only be called a contentious race, District 1-C Delegate Mike McKay defeated current Allegany County Commission President Jake Shade for the Republican nomination for State Senate in District 1. Delegate McKay defeated Shade by a 52 to 47 per cent margin. McKay will face Michael Dreisbach for the office now held by retiring State Senator George Edwards. In the District 1-A race, Jim Hinebaugh received over 58 per cent of the vote for the office now held by Delegate Wendell Beitzel, who is also retiring. He will face Democrat Robert Spear.
