CSX is once again being cited for an explosion at a coal silo last year in Curtis Bay. The Maryland Department of the Environment has cited the company for the December 30th blast at its Curtis Bay Coal Terminal in the 1000 block of Benhill Avenue. The recent citation comes after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed a 120-thousand-dollar fine for the rail carrier earlier this month. MDE says CSX failed to take the proper precautions to ensure that particulate matter from the explosion did not become airborne. The company could face fines of 25-thousand-dollars a day or criminal penalties if it does not act to rectify the problem at the silo.
