JUDGE DENIES MOTION TO DISMISS CHARGES AGAINST MOSBY; JURY SELECTION WILL NOT BEGIN TODAY

A federal judge is denying a motion to dismiss two perjury counts against Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. During proceedings yesterday, the government filed a motion to delay the trial over concerns about an expert witness the defense wants to call. The government says it wants more time to prepare, if the judge allows the testimony. Jury selection will not begin today, as had been scheduled. Mosby is accused of withdrawing money from her retirement fund through a CARES Act provision that waived penalties for people adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  She also faces two counts of making false statements on mortgage applications.
