PA. SCHOOL DISTRICT LESSENING REQUIREMENTS TO ATTRACT TEACHERS AS INTEREST DECLINES

Interest in teaching as a profession has fallen off over the past decade in Pennsylvania, and is impacting local school districts significantly.  Cumberland Valley School District officials say the district is down roughly a third the number of teachers they had at the start of the 2017-2018 school year.  Science and English subjects are the hardest positions to fill.  Changes have been implemented to help attract more teachers, including the elimination of basic skills assessment testing requiring applicants be competent in math, reading, and writing.
