MARYLAND COUPLE GIVES NEW GUILTY PLEAS IN SPY CASE

A naval engineer and his wife are entering new guilty pleas in their espionage case.  Maryland couple Jonathan and Dianna Toebbe are accused of plotting to sell secrets about nuclear-powered warships to a foreign government.  They pleaded guilty in federal court in Martinsburg yesterday to one felony count each of conspiracy to communicate restricted data.  The couple’s initial pleas were rejected because the judge said the sentencing options weren’t harsh enough.  Jonathan is a former Navy engineer and Dianna is a former private school teacher.
