REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE APPEALS EARLY COUNT OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS

Maryland’s Republican candidate for governor is appealing a ruling by a Montgomery County judge allowing the early count of mail-in ballots for the November election.  Dan Cox is seeking an emergency order to block the early count.  On Friday the judge granted a request by State Board of Elections to begin the canvass as early as October 1 to avoid delayed results.  Attorneys for Cox argued that the early count would violate the state constitution.  The campaign for Democratic candidate Wes Moore calls Cox’s decision to appeal an attack on democracy.
