COURT DENIES MOTION TO PAUSE SYED CASE

Maryland’s second-highest court is denying a motion by the family of murder victim Hae Min Lee seeking to put the Adnan Syed case on hold.  The Maryland Court of Special Appeals also gave the Lee family 15 days to explain why their appeal should go forward after Baltimore prosecutors dropped charges against Syed on Tuesday.  The family had appealed a judge’s decision to vacate Syed’s murder conviction, saying last month’s hearing was hastily scheduled and they could not adequately participate in the proceedings.  Syed’s case was featured in the hit “Serial” podcast.  He spent more 20 years in prison for the murder of Lee, who was his high school girlfriend.
