SCHOOL ASSESSMENT SCORES HAS W.V. HOUSE CONCERNED

Last week’s release of the National Assessment of Educational Progress scores has many West Virginians worried.  House Speaker Roger Hanshaw says it is exactly what was expected after the difficult learning because of COVID, but he wants to make sure schools have what they need to “correct the ship.”  One bill in the House last year would have provided for more aids in lower grades, and another one would have made sure all third graders were competent before moving onto the fourth grade.  Neither bill was passed by the Senate.
