The former director of the city of Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department, C. Eugene Mason, passed away Sunday at the age of 91. His 35 years of municipal service was marked by the dedication of the Gene Mason Sports Complex in South Cumberland in his honor. He began a Marbles Tournament with the city in 1959, and had been the National Marbles Tournament Director for 23 years. Gene is survived by four nieces and a nephew. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The funeral service will begin at noon; interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, with military honors accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
