A 64-year-old man has pleaded guilty in an 800-thousand-dollar fraud scheme targeting the elderly. Michael Anderson of Crystal Beach, Florida and Dun Lorring, Virginia conspired with others to persuade elderly victims to give them thousands of dollars under false pretenses. Anderson and the others posed as police officers, lawyers, or a relative to convince the victims to send money to help a loved one who was in trouble. For example, Anderson traveled to Sykesville and posed as a bail bondsman to collect 29-thousand-dollars from a woman who thought she was paying bail money for a nephew. Anderson faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud when he’s sentenced in March.
