The city of Cumberland has annexed a 40-acre tract of land along Messick Road in the hopes of commercial development in the future. In a joint venture, the city and county purchased the property at the junction of Messick Road and State Route 51 for $250,000 in December of last year. According to the Cumberland Times-News, the location is seen as the location of a distribution center or other type of business venture. The location is a half-mile from the site of the new 193,000-square foot FedEx Transport Center at Mexico Farms.
