MARYLAND PUBLIC DEFENDERS VOTE TO JOIN AFSCME

Employees under the Maryland Office of the Public Defender has voted to join the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The employees will be represented by two bargaining units, one for administrative and support staff and another for intake staff, investigators social workers and attorneys.  The workers have been working toward joining the union for two years saying they want a seat at the table to address under-resourcing issues, high turnover rates, wages and working conditions.
