MARYLAND PLANS TEXT MESSAGING FOR VOTERS WHO NEED TO CURE BALLOTS IN NEXT ELECTION

Maryland voters who plan  to use a mail-in ballot in the next election will be able to cure their ballot if necessary by text messaging.  Curing allows voters who forgot to sign the oath on their mail-in ballot to correct their mistake and make sure their ballot is counted.  A fraction of voters — about 600 voters — who cast mail-in ballots in July forgot to sign their ballots.  Of those voters, 250 were able to cure their ballots in time.  Legislation is expected to be introduced in the next session to require such a curing process.
