NEW JOBLESS CLAIMS UP IN MARYLAND

The number of Marylanders filing first-time claims for unemployment benefits jumped by more than 260 last week.  The U.S. Labor Department reports about 26-hundred claims were filed in the week ending on Christmas Eve.  That’s up from the previous week’s total of around 23-hundred.  Claims in neighboring DC fell by about 40.  They dropped by 117 in Virginia.  Nationally, initial jobless filings jumped by nine thousand, to 216-thousand.
