A private graveside service is scheduled for today at the Rocky Gap Veteran’s Cemetery for Floyd Wigfield, a Cumberland resident who served in the Army during World War II and was one of the first Americans to land at Utah Beach on D-Day. He passed away Monday at the age of 104. Wigfield and other veterans were able to return to Normandy in 2019, the 75th anniversary of D-Day. He was the recipient of the Legion of Honor medal from France for his military service and was received by former President Donald Trump at the White House.
