Hampshire and Preston counties are included in what are known as “Hub Zones,” which gives participating small businesses access to federal contracting opportunities and preferential price evaluations when bidding on at-large federal contracts. West Virginia is one of the first ten states to petition for expanding access to the Historically Underutilized Business Zone program. Boone, Clay and Monroe counties are also included in the petition to be designated HUB zones.
