Maryland legislative leaders are being asked to move the date of next year’s Primary Election because it coincides with the start of the Jewish holiday Passover. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski have written letters to the Maryland Senate president and House speaker requesting the change. They say Jewish community members observing the holiday on April 23rd, 2024 would not be able to vote that day. Changing the date of the election would require Maryland General Assembly approval.
