MARYLAND LEGISLATIVE LEADERS VOW TO CHANGE PRIMARY DATE

An effort to move the date of next year’s primary election in Maryland has the support of state legislative leaders.  In a joint statement, House Speaker Adrienne Jones and Senate President Bill Ferguson said they will work with the state elections board to find a more appropriate date.  Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski asked the General Assembly last week to change the date of the primary because it conflicts with the start of Passover.   They say members of the Orthodox Jewish community observing the holiday on April 23, 2024 would not be able to vote that day.
