A group that supports a bill in the state Senate that would raise hourly wages for tipped workers in Maryland rallied outside the state capitol yesterday. Tipped workers in Maryland are paid a little more than three-dollars an hour, which means tips make up most of their wages. A group made up of service industry workers believes that wage is not adequate and it wants it raised to 15-dollars an hour. Senator Arthur Ellis says his bill would increase the subminimum wage to 15-dollars, though some workers fear restaurants will cut staff to pay for the increased wages.
