Maryland State lawmakers are planning on filing emergency legislation this week to block wastewater from the Ohio toxic train derailment from coming to Baltimore for treatment. Republican Delegates Kathy Szeliga and Ryan Nawrocki from Baltimore County say they’ve talked with lawyers and their colleagues about filing the legislation. Both lawmakers acknowledge the Constitution’s Interstate Commerce Clause allows for toxic waste to be transported through Maryland. But they say local jurisdictions have the authority to block wastewater from being dumped into Baltimore’s sanitary sewer system.
