It will be up to Maryland voters to place an amendment in the State Constitution to enshrine the right to abortion. The House has voted to pass a bill that has already cleared the State Senate to place the question on the 2024 ballot. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, giving control over abortion to the states. The right to abortion is already protected in Maryland law. The state approved legislation in 1991 to protect abortion rights, if the Supreme Court allowed abortion to be restricted.
