A dozen citizens spoke at yesterday’s Allegany County Commissioners’ meeting, to express opposition to plans for a planned women’s health clinic in Rawlings, which would offer abortion services. The Women’s Health Center of West Virginia has plans to locate in the former Mountainview Healthcare facility, along Route 220, south of Cumberland. The property was purchased on February 1s at a cost of $699,900. Commissioner Bill Atkinson suggested citizens can lobby lawmakers in Annapolis to allow counties to have their own decision-making ability, because there is little that can be done right now.
