COUNTY FACING MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET DEFICIT

It’s a word we haven’t heard much over the last couple of years, but Allegany County is facing a $10.6 million budget deficit for Fiscal Year 2024. During a budget workshop, County Administrator Jason Bennett noted projected revenue for the coming fiscal year is expected to be $102.3 million; requested expenditures are expected to total $112.9 million, resulting in the deficit. Contributing to the deficit are large increases in educational spending, emergency medical services and increased salaries.
