MARYLAND AG: ARCHDIOCESE LEGALLY FREE TO NAME ACCUSED ABUSERS

Maryland’s Attorney General says Catholic church leaders in Baltimore can release the redacted names of accused sexual abusers.  Anthony Brown said the ten names in his report were redacted as part of a court order, but the archdiocese can “at any time” publish those names as people who have been credibly accused of child sexual abuse.  The archdiocese said on its website that the AG’s office requested the redactions —  not the archdiocese  —  and the court ordered it.  However, Brown says church officials are legally permitted to release those names “should they choose to do so.”
