Nineteen attorneys general — including Maryland’s — are calling for a recall of some Kia and Hyundai car models over a lack of anti-theft controls. Models manufactured between 2011 and 2022 have seen targeted after social media challenges asked people to steal them with just a USB cable and screwdriver. In Baltimore County, almost 200 Hyundais have been stolen so far this year. The attorneys general said in a joint letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the thefts have led to at least eight deaths, along with injuries and property damage.
