ACCUSED MASS SHOOTER DECLARED NOT CRIMINALLY RESPONSIBLE

The West Virginia man charged in a deadly mass shooting at a Western Maryland manufacturing company will not be going to prison.  A Washington County judge declared Joe Esquivel not criminally responsible for the shooting at Columbia Machine in Smithsburg last June.  The judge committed Esquivel to a state psychiatric hospital for treatment of a mental disorder after a state health department assessment determined he suffers from schizophrenia.  Three coworkers died in the shooting, a fourth was wounded and a state trooper was injured in a shootout with the suspect.
