MARYLAND AMONG STATES SUING OVER ILLEGAL ROBOCALLS

Maryland’s Attorney General has joined 48 counterparts in a lawsuit against a telecom company that was allegedly involved in illegal robocall schemes. Anthony Brown and the other AGs claim that between 2018 and 2023 Avid Telecom sent or attempted to transmit more than 24-billion calls nationwide, with more than 7-point-5-billion going to numbers of the National Do Not Call Registry. Many of the robocalls were allegedly related to Social Security, Medicare, Amazon, credit card and auto warranty scams. Attorney General Brown says fraudulent robocallers cannot be allowed to invade homes, disrupt lives and violate the trust of Marylanders and the lawsuit is a significant step towards stopping them.
