MORE SECURE FUNDING FOR PA. STATE POLICE BEGINS WITH NEW BUDGET BILL

SIGNING

The State of Pennsylvania can no longer use money designated for transportation to pay for state police. When Governor Josh Shapiro signed the nearly 46-billion-dollar budget bill last week, it started a planned phase-out of transferring hundreds of millions of dollars each year out of the Motor License Fund. The money had mostly come from state gas tax receipts and license fees. Shapiro says the budget bill sets in motion a series of reductions of 125-million dollars per year from the transfers until they reach zero. At that time, all the fund money will go directly into road and bridge work.
