A ruling by a Baltimore Circuit Court judge means a substantially-unredacted version of a report on child sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Baltimore could be released soon. In the ruling unsealed today, the judge authorized the release of a new version of the report in which all but three of the previously redacted names will be unredacted. The original report released in April documented the abuse of hundreds of children dating back to the 1940’s and identified more than 150 alleged clergy abusers, but ten names were redacted. The names of five ranking church officials were also redacted. Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown says the mostly-unredacted report will be released as early as September 26th.
