NATION’S FIRST RURAL RESIDENCY PROGRAM IN WEST VIRGINIA

The nation’s first rural surgery residency program with separate accreditation is now open.  The ribbon was cut on the program combining the efforts of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and Marshall Community Health Consortium at the Logan Regional Medical Center.  The Association of American Medical Colleges estimates a shortage of nearly 30-thousand general surgeons in rural hospitals over the next couple of years.
