Maryland Senate President Bill Ferguson is endorsing Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks in her bid to replace Senator Ben Cardin. In announcing his endorsement, Ferguson said he can’t imagine anyone better to succeed Cardin when he retires next year. Ferguson is the latest high-profile endorsement picked up by Alsobrooks who is the first woman and first Black woman to serve as PG County executive. A number of elected officials have endorsed Alsobrooks, including Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen, former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Congressman Kweisi Mfume, Comptroller Brooke Lierman and Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones.
