CITY UPDATED ON CYBERSECURITY ISSUES

Noting there is room for improvement with the city’s cybersecurity system, the Cumberland Mayor and Council discussed the subject during a work session this week. Cumberland’s Cybersecurity Specialist Chip Watkins noted that the city has experienced about 2700 failed attempts in 24 hours from outsiders trying to log into city accounts. The global average cost for a single data breach is nearly $4-1/2 million; Cumberland is expected to spend thousands of dollars on cybersecurity, according to the Cumberland Times-News.
