Representative John Sarbanes’ colleagues in the Maryland Congressional Delegation are thanking him for his many years of public service and wishing him well in the future. Their comments come after the Third District Democrat announced Thursday that he would not be running for reelection in 2024. Congressman Kweisi Mfume says the announcement is bittersweet because John is a fierce advocate for government reform, a fighter for the freedom to vote, a defender of the environment and the embodiment of what it means to be a public servant. Senator Ben Cardin says Sarbanes has had an incredible career and he has added to the quality of life for Marylanders and the integrity of the political system.
