STATE CHIPS IN $542K TO TRAIN MACHINISTS, WELDERS TO BUILD SUBMARINES

Pennsylvania is kicking in roughly 542-thousand-dollars to a regional effort toward training machinists and welders in the skills needed to build submarines.   Most of the funding for the effort, about five-million-dollars, is coming from the U.S. Department of Defense, which has identified Pennsylvania as a critical part of the shipbuilding supply chain. The effort itself is being spearheaded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development agency and the Manufacturers’ Association, a regional trade group based in York County. Additional funding is coming from a private match as well donated training equipment from the robotics company FA America Corporation.
