LEGISLATION WOULD REQUIRE THAT AEDs BE PLACED IN ALL STATE BUILDINGS

The House State Government Committee is considering whether to install and maintain AED devices in all state buildings. Democratic Representative Tim Brennan’s proposed legislation would require that automatic electronic defibrillators be placed in conspicuous locations, as well. He says the chance of surviving a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital is as low as ten percent, so every second counts. Brennan adds that, despite AEDs significantly reducing the possibility of permanent impairment, they’re only used about six percent of the time.
